Tammy: Okay. Now this is a question that I’ve asked everybody including the vets because one of the things that people evidently really want to know is if they can keep their goat in their home.
Russ: Yeah. The answer to that is yes. We have friends…We belong to the Southern Pygmy Goat Club and we have friends that two of their goats are in-house pets, although you need to keep their feet trimmed and when they’re babies you need to train them to go in a crate because they like that anyway and then they’re a little bit difficult to housebreak, but once you housebreak them they’ll act just like a dog.
Tammy: Well are they completely housebroken though?
Russ: Well even if they’re not, even if they have an accident, it’s not too bad because they don’t do like dog droppings, they do like deer droppings. They’re little pellets and they’re easy to clean up. So no they’re not…I don’t think that they’re 100% reliable like a dog would be after a while.
Tammy: Yeah evidently one of the vets told me they can’t be because they’re ruminants.
Russ: Well I can show them two.
Tammy: Really?
Russ: Yeah in North Carolina and that lady claims that maybe once a month she has to clean something up and mostly that’s because they forgot to let the goat out.
Tammy: Oh well she said it was because they’re ruminants that their stomachs are producing the stool all the time.
Russ: Well she’s right, but if you have the house so that they can go in and out, once they’re trained, they’ll go out and do their thing.
