Tammy: Yeah so it probably depends.
Jewel: Yeah. I have…When I have a bottle baby and sometimes I choose to have a lot of bottle babies because it does make them very tame and if I don’t have the time to spend to make them tame or I’m not going to take the time to spend to make them tame then I take them off mama. It’s hard on mama but it goes real fast. Within two days they quit their morning. And the babies, depending on when you take them off, if it’s immediate and they don’t even know any
0:05:00.2 different then you’re their mommy. And I have had them in playpens in the garage. If they’re really tiny, because occasionally you get a tiny one, then they’re in the house on a heating pad. So you make those sacrifices, but they don’t stay in the house for me.
Tammy: So do you recommend that people get a bottle baby as a pet?
Jewel: If they’re just going to have a couple of pets, I definitely would recommend that and there’s some people who do not like that, the idea of just taking them off mom, and I can understand that as not being the best plan, but if they are going to use them as a companion, take them on walks, then that works great for that.
Tammy: Now is there a lot of labor-intensive…Does the new owner need to be like with the bottle baby 24/7 the first few days they have them?
Jewel: If they’re a tiny one, they would need more attention, they would need to be fed more often. In the first week, I probably feed them three to four times a day, but after the first week if they’re a fairy strong…And you would have to know that from the breeder.
